Removals to Munich

While Munich is not the capital of the country it’s very much the centre of it for many — much like NYC in the US. With this in mind, here’s a few things you really need to know…

How expensive is it to live in Munich?

A 4-person family can live comfortably off of £3,000 + rent a month, which gives plenty of options for those looking to balance work with childcare. Rates and rents will be approximately 2-3% more than Berlin, but this also reflects the fast rate of growth in the city and the number of people from all over Europe who want to make a home for themselves there. Public transport offers good value in the form of buses and trains, with commuter discount cards available for those who are constrained to the same routes and times 5 days a week.

Is Munich safe?

The crime rate in Munich is one of the lowest in Germany, in no small part to the large level of investment in policing and public services. This means that while the tax in Germany may be higher than you pay at home, you certainly see where your money is going. Outdoor spaces are wide, open and well-lit at night, and public transport is largely clean and secure. This should give you confidence that you can go out and explore your new home as you start to taste the culture in whichever way you choose.

How can you make friends in Munich?

Relocating brings with it a number of obstacles, not least of which is making a new network of friends you can socialise with outside work. Bayern Munich football club is the beating heart of the city in so many ways and a great topic to discuss with colleagues if you want to see them outside working hours. There are also a range of galleries, exhibits and public parks you can go to with your family on the weekend.

Munich Job Options

Engineering and pharmaceuticals are two of the major employers in and around Munich. These global growth industries are searching for people with university degrees who are looking to specialise in a wide range of key areas. If you have an in-demand skill set then you can expect to find highly competitive salaries and benefits packages right on your doorstep once you move to Munich.

Buy a House in Munich

If you are earning £50,000 a year or more then you can realistically save up and buy a home in Munich. Due to the economic boom the city has undergone since the turn of the century house prices have doubled in real terms in the last 10 years alone. This means that while the standard of living and quality of accommodation is high, you will get less for your money than in other parts of the country. For this reason, you might consider renting for longer than in other parts of Europe as it currently represents better value for money.
